Campus Safety

The Campus Safety Department works to ensure a safe campus environment for all the members of the Widener Law Commonwealth community. We respond to alarm violations and walk-in and telephone contacts and conduct vehicular patrols of campus.

Safety Personnel

The force is composed of two full-time and two part-time officers. The safety officers do not carry weapons and do not have the power to arrest. Safety personnel are identified under the Pennsylvania Code as proprietary agents of the university whose authority is limited to the immediate and adjacent vicinity of university property.

Officers are provided in-house training in basic criminal laws and procedures. In addition, all receive on-the-job and in-service instruction in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and automated external defibrillation (AED).

Coordination with Local Police

The Campus Safety Department enjoys an excellent working relationship with the Susquehanna Township Police Department, which has primary police jurisdiction for the campus. All matters brought to the Campus Safety Department's attention are investigated to determine appropriate action. The Campus Safety Department will assist any member of the university community with contacting local law enforcement. The Campus Safety Department also encourages victims of crimes to report these incidents to the police department within that jurisdiction.
