The established parking policy is meant to protect the safety and security of students, employees, and visitors on any Widener University campus.
The operation of motor vehicles on all Widener University campuses is a privilege granted by the university. It may be withdrawn at any time if you fail to comply with the State or university rules and regulations that are set forth. Failure to comply may also result in your vehicle being ticketed, immobilized, and/or towed from campus at your expense. It is the responsibility of owners/drivers to maintain their vehicles in safe and operable conditions while parked on campus.
All Widener University students and employees must obtain a parking hang tag for the motor vehicle owned, operated, or brought onto campus in conjunction with their attendance or employment. Widener University parking regulations apply to all motor vehicles parked or driven at any time on the university campus.
All parking in campus lots is by permit only. All employees and students must register their vehicle with Campus Safety. Registration forms and permits can be obtained directly from the Campus Safety Office located in the library on the Harrisburg Campus. Parking permits are transferable. Parking permits for students are valid from September 1st through August 31st each year. There are three types of parking permits: resident, commuter, and employee. Permits remain the property of Campus Safety and may be cancelled or revoked for cause at any time. University guests can receive a temporary parking permit from Campus Safety.
A person with parking fines outstanding from the current or previous year(s) may register a vehicle, but will not be issued a parking permit and may not park in any lot until payment of fines is resolved.
ONLY THE MOST CURRENT (VALID) HANG TAG IS TO BE DISPLAYED. Parking hang tags must be located on the rearview mirror with the printed side facing outward to be valid. All questions concerning the parking rules and regulations will be directed to:
Parking space availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis to eligible permit holders. A parking permit does not guarantee the holder a reserved space; it guarantees only the opportunity to park in any parking area if there is a space available.
All parking lots and parking spaces are clearly marked. A motor vehicle may not be parked in any area from which it is restricted by signs, other traffic control devices, markings, or by specific action of Campus Safety or other departments. Widener University is not responsible for any damage or theft involving vehicles parked on its property.
Motor vehicles, to include motorcycles and motorbikes, may not be parked in areas not designated as valid parking zones. No motor vehicle may be parked at any time on a sidewalk or crosswalk, on the grass, in front of a driveway, doorway, or steps, within an intersection, on the roadway side of any vehicle that has stopped or parked at the side of a roadway, in a service driveway or associated turnaround, or in any dorm or other university building. No vehicle is to be parked in any manner so as to block or interfere with the use of a handicapped access ramp.
No vehicle may interfere with the use of a fire hydrant, fire lane, or other emergency zone, create any other hazard, or unreasonably interfere with the free and proper use of the roadway, parking area, or loading dock.
Enforcement of university parking regulations includes ticketing and/or towing. All methods of enforcement have fines attached. Towing and storage fees, as well as vehicle retrieval, are the responsibility of the owner/operator.
Parking a vehicle in such a way that it is in violation of any parking regulation will result in a $25.00 fine for each violation. Parking in fire lanes and handicapped spaces incur a $50.00 fine. Any damage to university property will result in a fine and payment of damage costs.
Payment, appeals, and questions should be directed to the campus where you received the citation. Vehicle parking fines must be paid at the Registrar’s Office during normal business hours or mail the payment to the address listed below. The Registar’s Office is located in the Administration Building on the Harrisburg Campus.
The citation should accompany the payment. Payment must be received within seven (7) business days. Failure to pay in accordance with published university vehicle regulations may result in further action(s) being taken.
Appeals should be submitted in writing to the chief of Campus Safety at the address listed below. A brief, but complete explanation of your appeal, identity, and contact information must be submitted.

Towing and storage fees, as well as vehicle retrieval, are the responsibility of the owner/operator. Any damage to University property will result in a fine and payment of damage costs.
Widener University employees that expect a large number of visitors must submit a hard copy or email to the chief of Campus Safety at least five (5) days in advance. Please ensure that the date, time, exact location, number of spaces, and the names of the incoming guests are included. The requestor will be informed if the request can be accommodated.
Temporary permits are required and available for students, employees, visitors, and guests of the university. Individuals must request a temporary parking permit at Campus Safety on their campus. All temporary permits include an expiration date.
Widener University reserves the right to temporarily restrict and change the parking regulations as needs exist. Such restrictions will be conspicuously posted on appropriate signs and traffic control devices and will, when practical, be publicly announced in advance.
The security of the parking hang tag is the responsibility of the purchaser. If your hang tag is lost or stolen it must be reported to Campus Safety. The original permit will be voided and future use of the lost/stolen permit will result in appropriate fines. There is a $25.00 fee for parking hang tags that need to be replaced.
Please remember that safety is a shared responsibility. The speed limit on campus is 15 MPH!
