Implicit Bias

Lawyers have an ethical duty to be mindful of the deficiencies of the legal system and the administration of justice. Our unconscious biases affect how we understand and interpret the world, including the legal system. It is imperative that lawyers understand what implicit biases are, how they can be checked, and if unchecked, how they affect the practice of law and the administration of justice. In this session, Tameka Hatcher, who is the Educational Outreach Program Coordinator at the PA Human Relations Commission, will teach what implicit biases are, how they are formed, and what we can do about them. Prior to the session, you should take the following test to assess your unconscious biases: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/takeatest.html.
