“As a community leader, I guide our students in civic engagement by moderating the VITA tax preparation program. Although it involves countless hours of work, it is a delight to see students honing their practice skills by working with low to moderate-income taxpayers while at the same time networking with alumni and other community volunteers.”

Michael Hussey teaches and writes in the areas of taxation, business organizations, wills, trusts, and estate planning. The founding director of the law school’s innovative Business Advising Program, Professor Hussey is devoted to preparing students to advise business clients as practicing lawyers.

Professor Hussey is the faculty director of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. In this program, students and alumni prepare tax returns for low-to moderate-income taxpayers. He is also a committee member of the Money In Your Pocket campaign that coordinates VITA sites in the greater Harrisburg area.

Professor Hussey has won the law school’s teacher of the year award. He was recognized as one of the Harrisburg area’s “40 Under 40” by the Central Penn Business Journal.
