Jennifer Zimmerman ’02 chose Widener Law for its convenient location in the heart of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania’s tight-knit legal community. It wasn’t until she got immersed in her education that she discovered the depth of Widener’s connections in the community.
“Widener Law is fantastic,” Zimmerman says. “So many practitioners in the Harrisburg legal community support the School, which creates excellent networking opportunities.”
In fact, it was networking—and participating in on-campus recruitment—that helped Zimmerman land a position as a summer associate at Rhoads & Sinon LLP. That position led to a full-time job after graduation, and as an associate with the firm, she worked in debtor/creditor rights, litigation, and business law. Jennifer is now working for the Legal Services Department of American Education Services.
On the job, Zimmerman draws on her Widener Law education every day. She’s very grateful for her career preparation. “I was confident and capable when I got into practice,” Zimmerman says. “I felt I could compete with any lawyer, from any law school in the country.”
The most exciting aspect of Zimmerman’s career has been her role as co-founder of Serving Women Business Leaders. A collaboration between her firm and the Executive Planning Group (EPG), the initiative offers seminars and networking events for women business leaders. For Zimmerman, it’s fulfilling to empower women to find the same kind of success she’s found for herself.
