Business Advising Certificate Requirements

This certificate program is for enrolled Widener Law Commonwealth students only and are awarded upon graduation from the law school. 

Admission Requirements

Applicants must complete and submit an application to the Registrar’s Office.

Certification Requirements

Students must submit an application to the Registrar’s Office by no later than the drop/add period of their final semester. To be awarded a business advising certificate, a student must have an overall cumulative GPA of 2.7 and a 2.7 cumulative average in all concentration courses. Please note: these certificates are for enrolled Widener Law Commonwealth students only and are awarded upon graduation from the law school. 

Required Courses
  1. Business Organizations
  2. Taxation of Business Entities (*note: Federal Income Tax is a prerequisite for this course)
  3. Contract Drafting, Business Planning, or Deal Skills: Mergers & Acquisitions
  4. Secured Transactions, Bankruptcy, or Real Estate Transactions
  5. Copyright and Trademark, Employment Law (or Employment Discrimination), or Insurance Law
  6. One additional elective from either group 4 or 5 or an elective approved by the Certificate Director. Examples of approved electives include: Wills and Trusts, Securities Regulation, Nonprofit Organization, Business Basics, and M&A.

The business advising certificate director may approve other courses for any of these requirements.
