Toward a Sustainable Global Trading System: Legal Challenges and Environmental Imperatives
Please join us for this upcoming event with Daniel Esty, Hillhouse Professor at Yale University and director of the Yale Center for Environmental Law and Public Policy and co-director of the Yale Initiative on Sustainable Finance. Professor Esty is currently on public service leave and working at the World Trade Organization on sustainability issues.
As the world community ramps up its response to climate change and demands for a more sustainable future, interest in the international trade regime as a point of leverage for transformative change has grown. At the same time, various climate change policy approaches – including the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and the “green industrial policy” reflected in the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act – have been called out for their potential violations of trade rules.
Professor Esty will assess the opportunities and challenges that arise in trying to better align the trading system with climate action and the sustainability imperative of the 21st century.
One CLE credit available in Pennsylvania.
