U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Schwab to speak at Widener Law Commonwealth Commencement

Widener University Commonwealth Law School announced today that alumna and Magistrate Judge Susan E. Schwab of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania will serve as speaker for the school’s 25th commencement.

Judge Schwab will address approximately 50 graduates at the 11 a.m. ceremony set for May 22 at The Forum in the Harrisburg State Capitol Complex. She will also be presented with an honorary doctor of law degree.

Judge Schwab was appointed to the United States District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania in 2012, after serving 11 years with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as Deputy Chief Counsel for the Auditor General, Deputy Chief Counsel, and Deputy State Treasurer for Administration for Treasury and Deputy Chief of Staff for Administration and Deputy Chief Counsel for the Democratic Caucus of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Judge Schwab was also in private law practice with Rhoads & Sinon, LLP in Harrisburg and Semanoff, Orsmby, Greenberg and Torchia, LLC in Huntingdon Valley. A member of the Board of Overseers of Widener University School of Law and Chair of the Widener University School of Law Harrisburg Campus Diversity Advisory Board, Judge Schwab also served as Chair of Wilkes University’s Law School Planning Initiative. She is also a member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Commission on Women in the Profession.

A native of Wilkes-Barre, Judge Schwab graduated summa cum laude from Wilkes College. She is a member of the inaugural class of Widener University School of Law. As a law student, she served as Internal Editor of the Widener Journal of Public Law. Judge Schwab graduated magna cum laude and was the law school’s first valedictorian in 1992.
