Transaction Team Wins Regional Best Draft Award

The Widener Law Commonwealth Transactional LawMeets team returned to Harrisburg with an award for Best Draft at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Transactional LawMeet, held at the Drexel University Thomas R. Kline School of Law in Philadelphia, on February 26.

The Transactional LawMeet is a live, interactive, educational competition designed to give law students a hands-on experience in developing and honing transactional lawyering skills.

This year, Widener Law Commonwealth 3Ls Bridget Hendrick, James Kane, Zhao (Ruby) Liu, and Nick Marinelli, “represented” an emerging technology company in a joint venture with a subsidiary of a large corporate conglomerate. All four students are in the Widener Commonwealth Business Advising Certificate Program.

Twelve teams compete in each of the seven regional competitions, and each team was required to write and negotiate a Term Sheet for the deal. One team for each side in each region was recognized with a Best Draft Award.

The other competitors in the Mid-Atlantic Regional LawMeet were teams from American University Washington College of Law, Brooklyn Law School, Duke University School of Law, New York Law School, the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, the University of Pennsylvania Law School, the University of Richmond School of Law, the University of Virginia Law School, Villanova University School of Law, Western New England University School of Law, and the Delaware Law School of Widener University.

The University of Virginia won the Best Draft award for the opposing side. This is the second time in three years that a team from Widener Commonwealth was recognized for superior drafting.

Widener University Commonwealth Law School is grateful for Mid Penn Bank’s generous sponsorship of the Transactional LawMeets team. Rory Ritrievi (’97), the President and CEO of Mid Penn Bank, is a member of the Advisory Board for Widener Law Commonwealth’s Business Advising Certificate Program.
