Jurist Academy

Widener Law Commonwealth Jurist Academy is a one-week program for college students that are members of underrepresented groups.  The program will introduce them to what law school is all about from the LSAT, to getting admitted, to law school classes, and finally to finding a terrific career as a lawyer.

About

Jurist Academy provides a real sense of what law school is like and what opportunities lie ahead for them in the field of law. Participants will experience the dynamics of a law school classroom, will meet lawyers and judges, and will have an opportunity to learn about the admissions process and life in law school. Participants will also be able to practice their oral argument, analytic, and test-taking skills.

Eligibility

College students who have completed their freshman year, have earned a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better, and who are members of a group traditionally underrepresented in law school are eligible.

Application Process

Application Deadline: Interested students must submit the following required materials by March 15, 2017:

  1. Completed Jurist Academy Application (PDF).
  2. Personal Statement. Discuss why you would like to participate in this program. You also may include a statement discussing circumstances in your background that demonstrate how your admission into law school would help to correct future under-representation of a particular minority or disadvantaged group in the legal profession. - 500 words or less.
  3. Official Undergraduate Transcript. All candidates must be in good academic standing. The minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average required is 2.5.  An official undergraduate transcript must be submitted with the application. Please submit an official transcript from every undergraduate school you have attended. All candidates must be in good academic standing.
  4. Two Letters of Recommendation. At least one letter must be from a college professor or dean. Letters of recommendation should discuss your academic potential, writing ability, and professional promise.
